Black-spotted frogs found at the supermarket in Minhang District

A supermarket in Minhang District is being investigated by district market watchdog for illegal trading in wild animals, authorities said on Wednesday.

It is Shanghai's first case of illegal wild animal trade uncovered by market watchdogs since the coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.

The Laojie fresh food supermarket on Zhuansheng Road in Minhang District was found to be selling black-spotted frogs which are listed as a protected species in China, the Minhang District Administration for Market Regulation said.

Sixty live frogs were found at the supermarket, the administration said.
